“If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” 1 John 5:14

We return to 1 John 5: 14-15. The Apostle John, writing under the influence of the Holy Spirit is telling us:  “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.  And if we know that He hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of Him.”

In our last message we spoke of the confidence we should have in approaching our loving Heavenly Father.  We are His Child, we are deeply loved by Him. When we accept Jesus His Son into our heart,  we become as Jesus.  We become completely righteous. “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)  He wants us to come to Him in joy and gladness to just ‘hang out’ with Him.  To sing to Him, and listen to Him sing to us through the multitude of ways that He does in life around us. To thank Him for His perfect love – for “perfect love drives out fear”. (1 John 4:18) To be totally aware of His Holy presence within, and without.  To talk to Him about things we are just thinking about – to ask His opinion – His thoughts.  He is our God, our Father Love, our Brother Love, our Mother Love, our Friend love.  We of course should always be aware of who He is – His greatness, His magnificence, His power.  We are to praise Him, and honor Him for who He is,  but we must also be aware of who we are.  “For He has given us a spirit of power, and love, and sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7) He created us for family, and fellowship, and has made us as one with Him through and in Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit ( John 14:20) for that to be so.   Let us bask in His love and desire to be in His presence continually.
When we pray, and ask for something in faith, the Apostle tells us “we know that we have what we asked of Him if it is according to His will.”  We must seek His will.  We must ask the Holy Spirit to lead us to what His will is if we are unsure.  Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, The Apostle Paul wrote: “And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.” ( Romans 8:27)
The Lord Jesus spent a lot of time in prayer.  He stayed connected to the Source of all power and life.  He told us to “come boldly, to be persistent,  to Ask, Seek, and Knock, and expect things to happen as we do.”(Luke 11: 8-10)  Let it be so for us, God’s Beloveds.  How blessed we are to be the children of the God of Love; to be able to make good things happen because we pray in the  power He has given us.
