“For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” John 6:40

We continue our study of the Gospel of John.  Picking up at verse 37 of chapter 6, we read the words of the Apostle inspired by the Holy Spirit.  He was quoting Jesus who said:

“All those the Father gives Me will come to Me, and whoever comes to Me I will never drive away.   For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of Him who sent Me.  And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that I shall lose none of all those He has given Me, but raise them up at the last day.  For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”  John 6: 37-40
We have read previously the words spoken by the Holy Spirit through John as he said:  “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)  In today’s verses Jesus is affirming that “if you believe in Me, you will have eternal life, and even though this mortal body will die, I will raise you up into your eternal being at the last day when death is no more – you can count on it.”
Sadly there are some people who are unsure of their salvation.  When asked if they are going to heaven when they leave this life they answer, “I hope so”.   Some people think that if they sin, or do something God is not pleased about, or with, they can lose their salvation.  Jesus said, “I have come down from heaven to do the will of my Father, and His will is that I shall lose none of those He has given Me.”
Jesus said, “Whoever comes to me I will never drive away.”  When we come to Jesus, and believe in Him, and ask Him into our heart as Lord and Savior, eternal life is ours.  It is done. Nothing else is required.  There are no certain words to say, no certain place to be, nothing else to add at that point – it is done.  “For by grace you are saved, through faith- and that not of yourselves.  It is the gift of God, not of works so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2: 8-9)  We did not do good work to deserve this gift, and there is nothing we can do to lose it.
We received it by His grace, and it is kept by Him – not us.  Even if someone goes into a dark place and the enemy tries to make them think they are lost from God, they are not.  Jesus said, “I will never drive them away.”  That is grace.  He said, “Very truly I tell you whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not be judged, but has crossed over from death to life.” (John 5:24) Jesus will raise them up at the last day.  Once saved – always saved.  He will never drive us away – nothing can pluck us out of His hand.  He will never lose us.  That is grace – His Grace.
Have a wonderful day, blessed in all things, and in all ways, God’s Beloveds.  Rest secure in His grace and His great love for you.  When we believe in His love, and live in His love, it flows through us to those in our life.  That is His desire.  That is His will.  That is when others see His Love in us, and are drawn to Him.  May it be so in each of us.
