The Word says, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13
When we accept Christ Jesus as Savior, and Lord of our life, the enemy lost. In some cases, he lost a big hitter for him, and he is not going to just accept it, and move on. He will be coming back with offers to seek whom he may suck back in. It may not be on the same scale that he tempted Jesus, but it will be very tempting, and some of the time it will be disguised as something you were not expecting.
Speaking through Paul, the Holy Spirit is warning us to be prepared. Be on the alert. It happens to every believer. In 1 Corinthians 10:12, we read, “So if
you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall.”
The good news for us is that the Lord is going to monitor anything that is going to effect one of His children. He may allow a temptation that He feels will help us grow, but He will not allow us to be tempted beyond what He knows we can handle. In some cases, that temptation may come again, and again until we get it, but when we handle it just like Jesus handled the temptations presented to Him, we will win – every time – and the enemy moves on.
In Matthew we see the account of the baptism of Jesus, and the affirmation of the Father, and the presence of the Holy Spirit upon Him. We read, “Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” (Matthew 4:1). Notice the Holy Spirit was with Jesus as Father allowed Him to see that He could stand up to huge temptation. He is with us as well. We can count on it. We may not get it right the first time like the Lord did, but when we learn to handle temptation like He did, and throw the Word of God, the truth, into the face of the tempter; and when we stand firm on the Word that tells us the blood of Jesus has been shed to set us free from the power of that which is wrong for us; and when we learn to say as Jesus did, “Away from me Satan! For it is written, Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.” The Word says, “Then the devil left Him. ” ( Matthew 4:10-11) This is the way the Lord has provided for us to endure, and escape temptation, and grow from it. We look to Jesus. He won the victory. So will we.
God is good. Always. He loves you dearly, and is ALWAYS there for you, my Friend. He is control of the game. You always win in the end.
