When we think of strength, we usually think in terms of the body. That is natural. We think about how we can increase our muscle strength: Eat the right foods. Have a solid exercise program. Lift some weights. Drink some muscle building drinks, etc. etc.
However, Paul made this proclamation, and made it clearly. “It is Christ who strengthens us”.
Of course it is Christ; for it matters not what we do, unless it goes through Him, there is no sustaining desirable result – in anything.
Also, we must realize we are body, soul, and spirit. When Paul made this declaration, he knew his strength came from within. He knew it was the power of the Holy Spirit flowing within, and through, His body that allowed him to face anything life had to offer, or that the enemy tried to impose. So it is for us.
Paul had just written under the direction and influence of the Holy Spirit these words: “Rejoice in the Lord always. Rejoice. Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation by prayer, and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Phil 4: 4-7)
Power and strength come into our spirit and our soul as we practice what Paul taught. When we can come to a point where we can rejoice – no matter what – Strength comes to our soul, and spirit. When we are gentle instead of harsh – strength comes. When we refuse to be anxious – strength comes. When we pray and petition the Lord, thanking Him as we pray for the answer – not matter what – strength comes.
When by living in this manner we have a peace that guards our hearts and minds from evil thoughts and ways – strength comes.
Let us chose to live as Paul has suggested. As we do, our spirit will be strengthened, our soul will be strengthened and will want what is right for us, and our body shall be strengthened, energized and quickened from the presence of Christ and the practice of these things.. We can do all things through Him who is within.
Have a wonderful day in every way, God’s Beloveds. We truly can do all things the Lord brings us to do through Christ. He does the heavy fighting we just have to show up.
Blessings and love to you, and yours. May you prosper in all good things, and walk in perfect health.
