‘This Happened that the Scripture might be fulfilled.’ John 19: 24

We continue our study of the Gospel of John.  Picking up at chapter 19, verse 23, John writes of Jesus on the Cross.  The Apostle says:

“When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took His clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining.  This garment was seamless, woven into one piece from top to bottom  “Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another, “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.”  This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled that said, “They divided my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.”  So this is what the soldiers did.”  John 19: 23-24
One of the main things beyond the Holy Spirit, God did to help us believe the Scriptures, was to give us prophecy.  Things that happened hundreds, or many times thousands of years later was given to Prophets of old to write down and for us to see come to pass.  King David of Israel was Prophet, Priest, and King. He was one of those chosen to see the future, and write it down.  Though imperfect in the flesh, David was a man after God’s own heart in Spirit, and Soul.  The Book of Psalms contains many of the prophecies the Holy Spirit gave to him to record.   Psalm 22 is a major example of how the Holy Spirit showed David what would happen at the Cross when Jesus was crucified some 1,000 years after it was shown to King David.  It was almost as if David was there – and perhaps he was in Spirit.  I encourage you to read Psalm 22 again as we go through the crucifixion in the Gospel of John. For instance, Psalm 22:18, from today’s writing is being fulfilled ” as the soldiers cast lots for the seamless undergarment of Jesus.”  As you go through the Psalms you will see many of the things God had shown David.  Again, and again, we see the Scripture fulfilled.
The point is when we see the Scripture being fulfilled, we realize this entire time God has given mankind to walk on this earth is already determined and has already been seen by our God of Love. As we have looked at several times, and will continue to look at from time to time because it is so relevant to our walk here on earth,  is this Scripture:  “From one man He made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.”  Acts 17:26  We are here at our appointed time.  We are here for our appointed purpose. We are here to fulfill our part – to perform the Script that has been written for us.
Let us study our Script in the Word, and live it to the full as we bring it to life through our actions of Love, and power of the Holy Spirit within, and without.   As we go home, our Father will say:  “Well done, my good and faithful child.”  Let us bring, and show, His unearned, unconditional, unmerited Love and Light to the world we live in. Let us point the world to Him through Christ. It is our time. Our time is Now.
