As we continue our study of the Gospel of John, we pick up at verse four of Chapter One. Writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and from being personally taught by the Lord Jesus, John wrote:
“In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1: 4,5
The Word tells us that God created mankind in His image. God is perfection, and that is how we were created – in His perfection. He created us to be His children, and His friends. He created us to have fellowship with Him, and to enjoy His great provision. He created us so that He could lavish His love upon us. That is still His desire.
The Word also tells us of the mistake of Adam, as he chose to believe a lie of evil over the truth of God. That choice plunged mankind into spiritual death and darkness, and separation from fellowship with the Lord, one on one. Adam’s action impacted all of creation. The action of Christ Jesus impacted all mankind.
The Word says: “Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people.” Romans 5:18
Just as Adam had the power of choice, so do we. We can choose to believe and receive this incredible gift of Love; and walk in His life, and His light, or let it go on by because we refuse to believe.
Ah, but when we believe, and say yes to Christ, who is the Word of God, it is as we walk into a dark room, and turn on the light. The darkness may still be in the room if that light is not on, just as there is still darkness in this world, but we who believe will walk in His life, and His light as we journey on. We shall walk in the love He desires to lavish upon us. Because of His light we shall see life differently. We shall live life differently because He will be in our born again spirit. The Word says, “For by one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.” Hebrews 10:14 Perfect in Him.
May we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Light and Life of the world. Be blessed in His Love for you.
