“Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27

We continue our study of the Gospel of John. Picking up at verse 25, of Chapter 14, we read the penned words of this great Apostle. He is quoting Jesus as he writes:

“All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom The Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14: 25 – 27

The Lord and His Apostles are partaking of the Passover Meal. He is preparing them for His departure but is letting them know they will not be left alone. He is letting them know there will be a Spiritual Presence that will serve as their Advocate. (one who pleads or argues for a cause or proposal) (one who pleads in favor of). This will be the person of the Holy Spirit, whom The Father will send to represent Jesus, and Himself. Much as today, we would retain a lawyer to represent, and speak for us. Jesus is saying, “He will be a replacement for Me, and will continue to teach you things that can only happen in His presence, and His power.” He will remind them of the things Jesus has taught them as they go forth to bring the Gospel – The Good News. The three years of walking with our Lord, hearing Him teach, and seeing how He changed lives and brought miracles will be ever fresh in their minds after they recover from the sight of His death on the cross, and then His resurrection. They will live in the miracle of miracles. How Christ died for us, defeated death, and now lives for us and is our Advocate in Heaven as He sits at the right hand of the Father on the throne of Grace.

There will be a peace come upon them like they had never experienced before. The Lord Jesus had a peace about what He and our Heavenly Father were going to do for mankind, and what the Holy Spirit was going to put in place in the world, and how He was going to give it to all who believed. The Lord knew His Disciples would not understand what was happening as He was arrested, and given a false trial, and then beaten beyond recognition, and then crucified. He was saying to them, “Hang in there. Don’t let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid. The Father and I have this covered. Walk-in my divine Peace.” All they had to do was trust and believe. Believe and Trust the presence of the Holy Spirit. God within, and God without. He has it covered.

Let this be the case for us, God’s Beloveds. Let us trust and believe that whatever we may be experiencing in our life, The Lord is with us, and He has it covered with the power of The Holy Spirit. Within, and Without. Let us walk in the Peace of the Lord. Never letting our hearts be troubled – for it is indeed a choice-, and never being afraid, for this too is a choice as we journey on. The Holy Spirit is in us, and with us, and provides for our every need. He knows exactly what that is, and when and how to give it. Let us trust and believe, and walk-in His divinely given Peace?
