“Father, glorify Your Name.” John 12: 28

We continue our study of the Gospel of John. Picking up at verse 27, of chapter 12, the Apostle records the words of Jesus as He writes:

“Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify Your Name.” Then a voice came from heaven. “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.” The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to Him. Jesus said, “This voice was for your benefit, not mine.” (John 12: 27-30)

Jesus had said, “Now is the time for the Son of Man to be glorified, (John 12:23) and it is time for Me to do what I have come to do.(John 12:27)” He had come to die for us as the supreme sacrifice for man. He had come to set us free from the sin and death the fall of Adam, and Eve had brought. The Word says, “For if, by the trespass of the one man death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:17)

Man had failed over and over in living for God, and in living in peace and love with each other. So God in His Love chose to provide the answer for us. This He did with the blood of His Only Begotten Son. Jesus knew it was time for that to happen. He knew the horror and pain that taking the sins of man upon Himself would bring, but He was willing to do it because of His love for mankind, and His love for His Father. It was “the reason” He came.

Each of us are given “a reason” for being here, and for being here at this time. Ours is to go to the Lord, to live in His Love, (His Name), and be open to what He brings into our lives that will fulfill that reason; as, and when, we do it. Let us glorify His Name. ” God is Love. (His name is Love.)Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” (1 John 4:16)
