“Jesus is the Bread of Life.” John 6:35

We continue our study of the Gospel of John.  We are currently in Chapter 6.  We saw where Jesus had fed thousands with two small fish, and three small loaves of bread.  He and His Disciples had left that location to Minister to others.  The next morning, the people began to look for Jesus.  When they found Him on the other side of the Lake, “He told them they were just looking for Him because of the food He had given to them.  Jesus told them not to work for food that spoils, but rather for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give.  For on Him, God the Father has placed His Seal of Approval.” Then they asked Him ‘What work does God require?’  He answered them saying, ‘The Work of God is this: to believe in the One He has sent.”  (John 6:26-29)

“So they asked “What sign then will You give that we may see it and believe You?  What will you do?  Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness as it is written. “He gave them bread from heaven to eat.”  Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven .  For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.’  ‘Sir,’ they said, ‘always give us this bread.’ Then Jesus declared, ‘I Am the bread of life. All those who come to Me will never go hungry and whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty.  But as I told you, you have seen Me and still you do not believe.'” (John 6:30-36)
It is strange and sad that the people were asking for ‘signs’ from Him, that they might see and believe, in view of the fact of what He just done for them the day before.  This happens to most of us.  The Lord can show us provision, and deliverance, and then so often, we have trouble trusting Him the next day to meet our every need.
The people were asking for the Lord to give them bread as their ancestors were given manna each day from heaven to show that He was the Messiah – the Son of Man.  His reply was that He is the true bread from heaven, and that the Father had sent Him to bring life to the world.  He told them clearly, “I Am the Bread of Life.  When you believe and come to Me, you will be given daily bread, and you will not thirst.”    This we must do.  We must look to Him daily.  The Lord said to pray, “Give us this day, our daily bread.” (Matthew 6:11)
We receive Life, true life for our spirit, and soul for the day as we do.
We will hear much more from the Lord about the “Bread of Life” as we continue on in this fascinating chapter next week.
Have a wonderful day in every way, God’s Beloveds.  May you be filled daily with the true Bread of Life, and share it with those in your life who are hungry for it.
You are unconditionally loved, covered in His grace, and greatly blessed in Christ Jesus.
