As we continue our study of 1 John, we pick up at verse 13 of Chapter 4. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle wrote: “This is how we know we live in Him and He in us: He has given us His Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent His Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God.” 1 John 4: 13-15 To “acknowledge” something means to accept it as truth. When we can wrap our mind around the truth that God comes to live in us, and that we live in God, when we acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God, and that we are born again into His perfection, (Hebrews 10:14) everything changes. We come to realize that we are a child of God, and that we are ‘one’ with Him, and with everything He has created. We begin to look at people, animals, plants, and every living thing differently. We come to realize we are in them, and they are in us. John walked with Christ Jesus on this earth, and saw first hand the work of His presence. But it took some time for John to realize that ‘presence’ would come to live in his spirit, as the Holy Spirit, and they would forever be as One. So it is with us. Because we are created differently, we react differently when we accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Some say yes to Christ, but it takes some time for them to realize He abides in them. Some say yes, but struggle with doubt. Some say yes, and jump in with all that they are. Regardless of reaction, He gives us His Spirit, and comes to live in us, and will never leave us. He gives us a spirit of power, and love, and sound mind to use. (2 Timothy 1:7), and starts the growth process. He works with our ups and downs, our lack of faith, our weakness of the flesh, but we know He is in us because He keeps calling us back into His presence in our spirit. Through this we know that we know. A
