No one who is born of God will continue to sin. 1 John 3

“No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.  This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother or sister.” 1 John 3: 9-10

Continuing our journey through 1 John, we pick up at verse 9 of Chapter 3.  Writing to the church, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, John is discussing ‘God’s Children, and sin’.
He states that “no one who is born of God will continue to sin”, and yet all believers still sin. Was the inspired Apostle wrong?  No, he was not wrong – the true Word of God is never wrong. But we have to search the scriptures and let them reveal truth to us if there is something we do not understand.  Sometimes we have to accept the fact that God’s ways are so much higher than ours, (Isaiah 55:8-9), that we cannot attain to that level at this point – but we will.  We simply must trust that His Word is truth, and “will not return to Him empty, but will accomplish what He desires and achieve the purpose for which He sent it”. (Isaiah 55:11)
Paul described the fact that we do things we do not want to do, and don’t do things we want to do in Romans chapter 7.  John had said earlier in this letter: “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8)  Before I became a child of God through faith in Christ Jesus, I thought a Christian was supposed to be perfect.  I considered those who professed to be a Christian, but yet sinned, to be a hypocrite. The few times I went to Church as a boy I would see the same men who I had seen worshiping on Sunday talking filth, and telling dirty jokes at the Service Station I worked at on Monday.  I was totally turned off by them, and others that did similar things.  I thought there were only two people in my life that were absolutely Christians.  My Grandparents.  (Let us remember people are watching. Our actions speak loudly)
The enemy uses things like this to try to debunk the Word.  I was looking at mankind, and falsely judging.  I walked away from the Church at 14,  and into many dark places before my wife led me back to the Light at the age of 29. I accepted Christ as Lord at that time, but the growing is still going on.  I totally understand Christians are not perfect in body, and soul.  Only in their born again spirit.
We are sinners saved by grace, and God will be working with us every step of the rest of this journey to help us attain total sinless perfection as we continue to grow.  John said “we will not continue to sin”. He is saying we will not continue to desire to do so.  We will have a mind that is being transformed day by day (Romans 12:2) through the power of the Holy Spirit within.  We may slip and fall, but the Lord will pick us back up, dust us off, tell us we are o.k., and encourage us to get back into the game with new knowledge and understanding of the power that is within.  We will get there.  We must never let the fact that we slipped hold us out of the race.
As the Apostle Paul said, “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations,                  forever and ever.  Amen.
May you prosper and be in good health, even as your soul prospers, God’s Beloveds.  You are greatly loved.
