“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit””Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.” Philippians 2:3

For some reason, I was remembering this week one of the many, many devotionals that Chuck Swindoll has written. Naturally, I could not recall which book this writing was in, but I do remember the message was short and sweet, and the content was powerful. In this work, he speaks about a small group of children who are building a clubhouse out of cardboard.
They work long and hard on the project, for they want to have a secret place to play and to hold their own meetings.
Finally it is finished.
All of a sudden, one child cries out that they cannot have a clubhouse without having rules. The whole group thought and thought, but they came up with only three rules:

Nobody act big.
Nobody act small.
Everybody act medium.
Swindoll pointed out later that their rules were not bad theology. A lot of problems could be solved, he says and I agree, by our “acting medium.” The children had stumbled upon some real wisdom here, for acting medium would make them more aware of being loving, being friendly, being helpful, and the list goes on. Think about it along with me today, and we can perhaps purpose to just act medium.
