A personal relationship of the Spirit to the Believer – “In” the Spirit

Continuing our study of the threefold personal relationship between Spirit and Believer, where the Bible uses “with,” “in,” and “on” to explain the connection. Today let’s focus on “in” and some of what God’s Spirit ‘in’ us actually means.

Jesus told us in John 14:17, “… The Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him or knows HIm. But you know Him, for He lives ‘with’ you, and will be ‘in’ you.”

‘In’ describes the literal abiding presence of Spirit ‘in’ the Christian’s body. Our bodies were bought with a price when Jesus sacrificed himself.

This very act gave Spirit victory over the flesh when He enters our body.

Then our human vessels are no longer “just a body.” Spirit’s presence makes our body a “temple.”

God sent a beautiful message to us through Paul – “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are ‘in’ Christ Jesus, because ‘through Christ Jesus, the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:1-2) This tells us that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Life. When He enters ‘in’ our spirit, He brings ‘life’ to our body to the full and we, in turn, become a defining aspect of life. The process of this is the transformation of us.

In Romans 8:26-27, the Apostle continues: ‘In’ the same way, the Spirit helps us ‘in’ our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans and words that normal words cannot express. And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance ‘with’ God’s will.”

We sometimes simply do not know how to pray about an issue, but Spirit will do that on our behalf when we ask Him to. That may funnel back ‘in” tongues, if that is our gift or He may present our desires ‘in’ groans of love to God the Father Himself. But Spirit ‘in’ us means we have a power for good that comes to us from and beyond what we can imagine. May we use it well.๐Ÿ™

Next week, we’ll look at ‘on.’

Lord, blessings, love, and healing to those who need you so badly. We pray for Ukraine and those in all other places suffering extreme loss in so many ways. We pray for their every need and ask You to help them as only You can. We love You so and believe that You will.๐Ÿ™

Let us be channels of that help my friends. May you be blessed as you continue to explore relationship with Spirit.
