Father, I pray for those who will believe in Me through their message. John 17:20

We continue our study of the Gospel of John.  Picking up at verse 20, in Chapter 17, we hear the Lord praying for His Disciples, and for those who will believe in Him through their message.  Jesus is praying for unity, and what He desires will come for believers.  He prays to the Father for His Disciples, and all believers who will come as He says:

“My prayer is not for them alone.  I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in Me and I am in You.  May they also be in us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me.  I have given them the glory that You gave Me, that they may be One as We are One – I in them and You in Me – so that they may be brought to complete unity.  Then the world will know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me.”  John 17: 20-23
Jesus is our intercessor.  He prays for us now – and He was our intercessor before we ever came to know Him because He knew that we would become One.   The Word says, ” But because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood.  Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him because He always lives to intercede for them. (Hebrews 7:25)  Though He is One with  Father God, He prays to Him with absolute respect for who He is.  Jesus spent much time in prayer when He walked upon this earth.  He modeled prayer as the thing that brings us into conversation with the Father, and Him, and the Holy Spirit, and to receive what we need, and ask for.
Jesus said, “I have given them the glory that You gave Me, that they may be brought to complete unity.  He was telling His Disciples in His prayer that He had given glory to them,  and He was telling us who would come unto Him later this as well.  Those who would confess Him as Lord in the years to come.  Glory means to lift up.  Jesus was lifted up to be as One with Father.  When we accept Christ as Lord, we are lifted up to be as one with Him.  Jesus is in us, we are in Him.  Because Father is in Jesus, and we are in Jesus, we become as one with Father, and the Lord.   And because the Holy Spirit comes into us when we accept Jesus as Lord, we become One with Him. Therefore, we are One with the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.  Glory is in us because He gave it to us. Glory is in us because of His Presence.   His power is in us.  His love is in us.  His wisdom is in us.   We are the Temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16)  Unity with the Lord is ours. Let us rejoice in that truth.
Jesus prayed for this.  His desire for unity: for Us to be as One with Him, and Father, and Holy Spirit, is the Great Love Story of mankind.  The Great unearned, unmerited Love of our God brought it to pass.  Let us share this wonderful truth at every opportunity.  ?  Let it be our Message.  To Him be Glory, both now and forever.  Amen.
