The Gospel was preached even to those who are now dead. 1 Peter 4: 6

As we continue our study of 1 Peter, we pick up at verse 5, of chapter 4.  It says:

“But they will have to give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.  For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to men in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.”  1 Peter 4: 5-6
Under the direction of the Holy Spirit to his spirit, Peter wrote ‘there will be a time of judgment for the living and the dead’. He had pointed out in the first few verses of this chapter, that our life style, and habits, and attitude should be of a person that does not live this earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.  He had pointed out the way pagans live, and how they would think it strange that someone who had lived as they do, but who had decided to follow the will of God would not join them.  That they in fact would heap abuse upon those believers because of their decision to follow Christ Jesus, and leave the old ways of the flesh.
This is what Peter was saying about the fact they would have to give account of themselves at Judgment Day.  Whether they were still alive in body, or had died bodily but was still alive in spirit.
There has been much discussion, and no doubt will continue to be, about the fact as to what happens to the soul and spirit when the body dies – if they have not heard the gospel, and been given the opportunity to accept Christ as Redeemer, and Savior.
We cannot say with certainty, but the Word tells us they will hear the gospel from Christ Himself wherever they may be.
Peter had already said, “For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.   He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, through whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison.” 1 Peter 3: 18,19
Now he is saying again, “the Gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to men in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.”
Paul had written as we see in Ephesians, “But to each one of us Grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.  This is why it says ‘ When He ascended on high, He took many captives and gave gifts to His people.’  What does ascended mean except that He also descended to the lower earthly regions?  He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens in order to fill the whole universe.” Ephesians 4: 7-10
This tells us no matter where we are, the grace of Christ will be extended to us.  We will always have the choice to say yes, or no, to it.
There will be a day of judgment, but here is the good news for all who have accepted Christ as Lord of Life.  Jesus said, “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will Not be judged, but has crossed over from death to life.  Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live.”  John 5: 24,25.
Let us hear the voice of the Son of God, and receive it into our body, soul, and spirit as we believe it in faith.  We who walk with Jesus as part of His body, will indeed not be judged on Judgment Day.  As we come forward to discuss our lives, we shall give an account and a review shall be conducted.  But any shortfalls, or debts owed, shall show as PAID IN FULL,  by the grace, and love, and blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ.  So it shall be for all who believe that He is the Son of God, Son of man, sent to bring us home by the love of the Father.  So it shall be for the living and the dead.
Let us be encouraged by the Word as we see the grace, and love of our Father, His Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Let us walk in health, prosperity, peace, and well being as we walk with Him.
You are highly blessed, surrounded by favor, and deeply loved,  God’s Beloveds.
Have a perfect day.  I love you.
