The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge. Proverbs 18:15

When Christ Jesus is in our heart, we desire to do things the right way.  Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” (John 14:6)  When we pray for wisdom, and  look to Him in His Word, and listen to His Holy Spirit within, and listen to Him as He speaks through others to us, and listen to Him through the circumstances He has us in, we will discern the right way.  “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge” – and so it is when we are looking in the right places and listening to the right voices.

However, sometimes we jump on something that looks or sounds appealing without running it through the process, and listening to what the Lord is telling us.  Proverbs 18:15 says, “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge;” and goes On to say, ” the ears of the wise seek it out.”  When we listen to Him, when we seek it out, we shall be given wisdom, we will get it right.
Verse 13 of this proverb says, “He who answers before listening – that is his folly and his shame.”, and verse 4 says, “The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook.”  We must discipline ourselves to listen before we speak. Listen to the Lord. Listen to others.  We learn by listening. We must listen wisely to the words being said before we answer.  Sometimes we think we hear the words being said, but all that we got is the surface of what was said – if we are too quick to speak.  There is a fountain of wisdom (the Holy Spirit) flowing in our soul, (our mind, will and intellect) if we do not dam it up with our will of the flesh and puffed up self.
To be ‘discerning’ means to have good judgment, to be astute. To ‘discern’ means to be able to separate the right, and the wrong – to perceive or recognize clearly.  When we give the Lord our heart, we have discernment. It is in us.  We have to seek it by praying for it, listening for it, sometimes waiting for it, looking for it,  but it is there.  His promise is that we shall acquire the knowledge we need to make the right decision.  We can always stand on His promises.  Let us look and listen to Him before we speak or leap. He indeed will give us discernment and knowledge to get it right.
May we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Now and forever.
Be blessed with good health, and prosper in all that is good, my Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus.
I love you.
