“It was for the sake of the Name that they went out.” 3 John

Hello my Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus,

As we continue our study of 3rd John, we pick up at verse 5.  Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle writes:
“Dear Friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers, even though they are strangers to you.  They have told the church about your love.  You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God.  It was for the sake of ‘the Name’ that they went out, receiving no help from the pagans.  We ought therefore to show hospitality to such men so that we may work together for the truth.”
3rd John 5-8
John is commending his friend Gaius, for giving financial and spiritual support to the itinerant evangelists who were working to carry the Gospel, the Good News of the new Covenant of God’s love,to the world.  This is a very special calling that requires great sacrifice on the part of the traveling Preacher, and his family.  There is usually no set income; they depend on the contributions, and hospitality of believers and those receiving the message.   Jesus was an itinerant evangelist, and so was Paul, as they spread the Word, so these men were in great company.
John was telling him, and us, it is a ‘working together’ that gets the job done.  Not everybody can be on the road, and indeed not everybody is called to be. But with those who are to stay where they are, supporting those who go,  the truth is carried forth.  The truth that before He was born in the flesh, the Name Jesus (in all the ways it is pronounced in every language) was given by our Father to His Son, our Christ, our Messiah, because He is our Savior and is to be lifted up for all mankind to hear and know.  The Word says,
“Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name; that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”  Philippians 2:9-11
That Name, Jesus, is what the truth revolves around.  When we believe in it, and speak it, we loose divine power in our lives.  When we pray for our needs, and intercede for the needs of others in His Name, we loose divine power upon that prayer.  Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life that God has chosen to save mankind by.  Adam led us into darkness.  Jesus leads us into Light, and to the love of the Father.
May you be in good health in your body, soul, and spirit; and prosper in all good things through the name, and the love, and the power of Jesus Christ, our Lord, God’s Beloveds.
Poppa B.
