Live in harmony with one another, 1 Peter 3: 8-12

As we continue our study of 1 Peter, we pick up at verse 8 of chapter 3. Peter, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, says:

“Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. For
‘Whoever’ would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech. He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
1 Peter 3: 8-12

Peter has been addressing the home as he has written to the wife, and to the husband seen in verses 1-7 of this chapter. He is now addressing the Church along with continuing to address the home and family.

He asks that every one live in harmony with one another – in the home, and in the Church. His suggested actions that will make us live in harmony are of course living in Christ, and His perfection.
Please take a minute to read again what Peter says in the above verses. Wow! What a powerful, beautiful message.

He lays out what we should do to live in harmony, and then tells us what this kind of life style will bring – it will ‘bring us good days and blessings from Him, for this is our calling.’

Based upon his own life, and mistakes he made, Peter knows, as we all do, that believing in Jesus as Lord does not make our actions perfect. We may have a hard time living life the way Peter has laid out at times. We indeed become a new creation as we are born again by the Holy Spirit, but that new creation is only perfect in spirit. (Praise God that perfection is what Father sees when He looks at us.)
Our soul, and our ways of the flesh go into training to do what is right when we are born again. Sometimes we are good students, and sometimes we are talking instead of listening to what He is teaching us. We get to decide every day if we are going to do life the Coach’s way, and listen to Him, or listen to deceitful speech. He said, “Whoever would love life and see good days” must turn from evil, and do good.

The evil one may throw things into our lives that might cause us to think and say and do things that will take away peace and blessings if we listen to him. He will try to tell us that God is not concerned with us. God does not care what happens to us. These are lies.
If that happens, hit the ‘re-boot’ button, and remember what the Word says, “The Lord’s eyes are upon those who do the right things, and is absolutely attentive to their prayer.” If we will stop and pray, and believe that He loves us and is for us because the Word says that He does and is, and let our faith in Christ take the place of that which is nagging doubt, He will bring peace and harmony back into our lives. It may come immediately, or start turning things and people so slowly we cannot see it, but it will happen when we keep the faith.
For so it is written, and so it shall be done. May we let the Word of the Lord encourage our hearts.

Have a good day, my Brothers and Sisters in Christ This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

May we grow in grace, and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To God be the glory for what He has done to show us His love.
