May the name of the God of Jacob protect you. Psalm 20:1

As we move through Proverbs and Psalms in our mid-week message, we come to Psalm 20.  Written by King David, this Psalm glorifies ‘The Name’ of our Lord God, and the power of it when spoken in faith.

In the Holy Spirit, David writes this prayer of encouragement and blessing:
“May the Lord answer you when you are in distress; may ‘the name’ of the God of Jacob protect you.  Psalm 20:1
“May He give you the desires of your heart and make all of your plans succeed. We will shout for joy when you are victorious and will lift up our banners in ‘the name’ of our Lord.”  Psalm 20: 5-6
Some trust in chariots, and some trust in horses, but we trust in ‘the name’ of the Lord our God.  They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm. Psalm 20: 7-8
Soon we will celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus.  “His Mother, Mary, a young virgin,  was chosen by Father God to bring forth His Son.  A Son of Man that would save Mankind from the darkness by His Light, and Love.
Father sent the angel Gabriel to Mary, who told her she had found favor with God.  He told her she would conceive from the Holy Spirit,  and give birth to a son.and she was told that she would give him ‘the name’, Jesus.  Gabriel told Mary her son will be great, and be called the Son of the Most High.  The Lord will give Him the throne of His father David, and He will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever, His kingdom will never end.”  Luke 1: 26-33
When David penned the Psalm we look at today, he did not know ‘the name’ Father would give, He just knew ‘the name’ would carry the full authority of God Almighty.  Jesus Christ. King of Kings, Lord of Lords.
The name Jesus is a Greek form of the Hebrew name Joshua – which means ‘The Lord saves’.
‘Christ’, means the Anointed One  The One anointed to be the Messiah who would save and reconcile man back to God through His love, and sacrifice.
Philippians 2:9-11 tells us, “Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place, and gave Him ‘the name’ that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father”.
Jesus Christ is ‘the name’ that has authority over all things.  When we believe that truth, and realize the power of it, and totally trust that it means The Word, and The Word means Christ Jesus,-they are one and the same – and that every promise in the Word is ‘Yes in Jesus Christ’, we are transformed by it.
May we never use it in a profane way.  May we always have reverence for it.  May we encourage others to do the same.  May we point our Brothers and Sisters to the light that it is.
It is the name above every name.  Faith in it brings Salvation.  Faith in it brings Healing.  Faith in it brings Abundant Life.
Blessed be the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ.
As King David wrote: “May He give you the desires of your heart and make all of your plans succeed.  We will shout for joy when you are victorious.”
Blessings and love to you, and yours, God’s Beloveds.
