“Remain in Me, as I also remain in you.” John 15:4

The last words in John 14 are “Come now, let us leave.” They are Jesus’ directive to His disciples that it was time to start moving towards fulfilling his purpose, after they’d finished what we call The Lord’s Supper. On the journey to the Kidron Valley, Jesus still had much to teach them.

In John Chapter 15, Jesus tells them, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He “cuts off” every branch in Me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the Word I have spoken to you. Remain in Me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself, it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.” (John 15:1-4)

When we first see these words, we may not understand and may feel we are in danger of being “cut off” by the Lord for bearing no fruit. That is not the case and never will be. If we have accepted Christ as our Savior, He will love us and work with us to help us be productive – and “fruitful” in every way as we open our heart to Him. Of course there may be times in our lives that we are seemingly producing nothing. Circumstances have led to our being “stuck.” We may not know why or even care if we’re in a season that demands so much we are too exhausted. But we must keep the faith and trust that all is still well. Because our Lord will bring us back to where we need to be if we stay “in” Him no matter what. He will restore our glow. Always remember we aren’t to lean on our own understanding. He most certainly is still at work within us even if we aren’t outwardly bearing delicious “fruit” for all to see. Sometimes the pruning is happening inside us and we never have to worry, in those times that the Divine Gardner is tilling the soil within us, that we aren’t doing enough.

He doesn’t see us as unproductive. He sees us as the finished work we will be one day and will keep leading us back to the purposes we are to fulfill when the time is right. He said, “You are already clean because of the Word I have spoken to you.” So, relax, stay in Him, and let our Lord keep teaching us as we go forth. Each day has a significant reason for being. And we are significant because He made us to exist in that day and make it all it can be for ourselves and others. Always remember that. Good shall come as we remain.

Fruitful branches are simply true believers. If we are that, we will not fall away. We may have hard seasons of rebirth and reconstruction that appear to be no more than seasons of us hanging on for dear life. Where simply surviving takes everything we have. Or perhaps it’s as simple as just feeling completely uninspired. Whatever it is, Jesus is still in us. Still working. And when we want to contribute, He will bring our best out of us eventually. Those in danger of falling away are those who choose to turn away from following Christ after making a superficial commitment. False followers or pretenders will eventually leave. That isn’t us.

As we continue to pray for Ukraine and those in Russia who do not want this war, It is a day by day world for all of them. Different days bring different losses or victories. It goes on. Let us remember to pray for them every day for some kind of workable solution. ๐Ÿ™

May the Lord be with each of you and yours as we continue our wonderful journey together. ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’š
