The Holy Spirit in the New Testament Series Begins!

Hello Loves,

As promised, we will begin the New Year of 2023 studying the Incredible Holy Spirit as He is revealed to us in the New Testament. We get to see a new side of Him there in a job He did not have in the Old Testament. Of course, He remains part of the Holy Trinity as a Divine “Person” (think ‘personification’ here: an entity with traits) with very specific work He does in the here and now. This work is His function within our tri-fold God composed of Father, Son, and Spirit. So, let’s get better acquainted with the Holy Spirit in the Trinity.

In the Gospel of John 14, verses 15 -17, Jesus said, “If you love Me, you will do what I ask. And I will ask the Father and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept Him because it neither sees Him or knows Him, but you know Him for He lives with you and will be in you.” In John 15:26, our Lord says, “When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, The Spirit of Truth who goes out from the Father, He will testify about Me.”

Consider that the disciples were distraught at the idea of their beloved teacher leaving them. They also were chosen to begin spreading the word throughout their world about the truths Jesus taught them. Well, how were they going to do that in their bereft state? In a world that did not know or accept their Master? How could they fight the spiritual warfare within themselves and the very real doubt living in the people of the day? Not to mention the threat hanging over all believers because of those in power that feared the message Jesus attempted to bring?

It was for these disciples and for all of us that would follow Christ that Spirit was then given the helm here on Earth so that gifts, like the ability to communicate big ideas could be instilled in those who would begin to “tell the good news” of Jesus’ life. Jesus, as a man with a body, had fulfilled His assignment here. But he could “stay” in the form of Spirit. As Spirit, He could literally inhabit the bodies of all his believers and those that would come to believe in Him. It’s in this form that He is able to “lead” us, like a “counselor” by impressing what is truth and what is not in our own spirits. In this form, Jesus’ Spirit bestows and reveals our gifts and leads us in how to use them. In this form, He can be with each and every one of us every minute of every day. In this form, He can protect and comfort us.

That was the beginning of Spirit’s modern mission. More in the weeks to come. As my Bible notes say, “The revelation concerning Him is progressive.”

We ask you, Lord, to be with our friends in Ukraine, and those in Russia that are not part of this aggression. We pray for the millions that have been impacted and have lost their homes. We pray for those who have lost their lives and for those who continue to fight for their land. Blessings and mercy upon them all.๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ™
