“The One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” 1John 4:4

As we continue our journey through 1 John, we pick up at verse 4 of
Chapter 4.  Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle
writes:”You dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the
One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”  1
John 4:4  (We are overcomers through He who is within)

John had been writing about the spirit of the antichrist – having just
said, “This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is
coming and even now is already in the world.” 1 John 4:3   We see evil
at work all around the world.  The biggest threat of evil right now
seems to be the group called ISIS. They are pledged to kill any
follower of Christ that will not bow down to their prophet, and
renounce Christianity.  We have seen this happen as they have videoed
mass Christian be-headings and put it out to the world to terrorize
any faith that is other than theirs.

Though this is the most direct and announced spirit of antichrist,
this group and others that clearly deny Christ, are not the only ones
the spirit of the antichrist uses.   The “world” is filled with
spirits of hate, spirits that bring fits of rage, greed and selfish
ambition,  envy, lust, pride and ego, addictions, lies, drunkenness,
idol worship of ‘things’, the love of money, abuse – mental and
physical, evil thoughts and words.  These are all things of the flesh,
and if the spirit of antichrist can get us to walk in these spirits of
the flesh instead of the Holy Spirit within; even though we have
Christ in our hearts, we will wind up walking ‘in the world’.  Though
we do not intend to do it, Christ is denied.

Please allow me a moment of explanation:  When we accept Jesus of
Nazareth as the Christ, and resurrected Son of God, and by faith ask
Him into our heart as Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit enters into our
heart as well as the Spirit of Jesus, and the Father.  He gives birth
to our holy spirit and we become His child. Our soul is born again
into perfection even though most of the time we do not realize it, or
live in the power of it.  “For by one sacrifice He has made perfect
forever those who are being made holy.” (Hebrews 10:14)    We are made
perfect in the eyes of our Father.  When He sees us, He sees Jesus the
Perfect One in or spirit.  Our body becomes the  temple of the Holy
Spirit, (1 Corinthians 6:19), and the flesh, and soul become  works in
progress as we continue our journey in this world. We are “Those who
are being made holy.”

Therefore, if a child of God is attacked by any of the aforementioned
spirits of the antichrist, and we began to act like a person of the
world instead of a person of the kingdom of God, there is Good News.
“He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”  As we look
upon the finished work of Christ Jesus at the cross, and call upon His
Name in faith and trust,  we shall overcome ‘whatever has attacked us’
as we realize who we are.  The Lord shall deliver us from whatever
this thing is that is not of Christ if we will but stand, and keep on
standing on this truth.  There may be a battle, but it is His battle.
(1 Samuel 17:47)  Ours is but to believe in His power. To live by
faith, and not by sight.  We are ‘overcomers’ as we do.
