The Word of life has appeared to us. 1 John 1-2

We begin a new study today as we take a walk through 1 John.  Writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, The Apostle John begins this Epistle with:

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched – this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.  The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.”  1 John 1,2
John begins this letter much like he did in his previous epistle which is called The Gospel of John.  He wants to make clear The One whom we call Jesus, because this is the name Father gave Him in our language, IS, and always has been.  In his previous letter he said:     “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning.  Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men.”(John 1: 1-4)
John proclaims that Jesus is the Word of life.  He proclaims that Jesus was with the Father, and that nothing was made that was not made through Him.  He proclaims that Jesus was with God, and is God, yet appeared to us as a Son of Man to give us life. John is a witness to that fact.  He lived with Him.  He saw Him perform miracles as a man.  He saw Him die on the cross.  He saw Him be resurrected to live in victory over all things as He sits at the right hand of the Father now on the Throne of Grace.
When we grasp what Jesus did, when we ‘see it’; when we see that He became flesh like us so that He could stand in for us on the cross to achieve our freedom from sin and death and put us into a covenant of grace and unconditional love, we have received a revelation.
We will then see Jesus as Son of God, and Son of Man which He proclaimed Himself to be again and again.  Only as a Son of Man could He have the flesh to receive the stripes that healed us.  Only as the Son of Man could He have shed the blood that gives us victory over the evil one.  “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony” (Revelations 12:11)
Jesus is Son of God – Son of Man.  We are son of man – son of God when we accept Him as Lord of our life. (Galatians 4: 4-7)  We are One with Him.  The Holy Spirit baptizes us into His body.  He is in us, and we are in Him.  We can relate to Him as we do our earthly family.  He is our big Brother and will always be there for us as a loving brother will.  He appears to us in His Word to fellowship with us and to show us the right way to life – the abundant life through the kingdom of God here on earth in the Holy Spirit.  He walks with us as our Great Shepherd. We are comforted in His presence because we know He is the Word of life.
John said, “I have seen Him and touched Him.”   It will be so for us as we open His Word, receive it, believe it, trust it and walk in His grace, and His love.
I love you, my Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus. May you be blessed greatly.  May you walk in His favor, and divine health, and prosper in all good things.
