This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth, and the spirit of falsehood. 1 John 4

As we continue our study of 1 John, we pick up at verse 5 of Chapter 4.  Writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle says:

“They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them.  We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us.  This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.”  1 John 4: 5-6
The Apostle is speaking of listening to the spirits of the antichrist, or to the Holy Spirit.  Just as Christ Jesus has sent His Spirit into the world through His Disciples, and us, to tell the Good News, (Matthew 28:18-20), the antichrist has sent his spirit into the world to lie about the truth of Christ, and to try to deceive those who hear.
One of the greatest lies ever told in this country was that there must be separation between Church and State.  The Founding Fathers knew that God had to be the Rock on which this Nation was built in order for it to survive.  The Task was too enormous to do it on their own. When it came to educating the children, the Bible was the only text book they had that was commonly shared.  The Law of the Land was taken from the Ten Commandments, and other basic Christian principles. It was a rock on which to stand.
But, as we know, Public Schools can no longer have the 10 Commandments on the walls.  The children can no longer pray aloud before the School Day begins. We cannot have a Christmas Play telling the story of the birth of Jesus in many public schools, and many are forbidding the use of the word -Christmas. Christ has been removed from the education of our children for the most part in public schools, and the results are glaringly obvious.
This is just one example. There are many more but this is not a political platform.  So how did this happen?   The spirit of the antichrist was at work in some of his (antichrist’s) disciples. Their job was to get the people to deny the need for Christ in their public lives. And the drumbeat was so loud without, we as believers let it drown out the voice of the Holy Spirit within.   As John was pointing out, the antichrist voices were speaking from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listened to them.  But, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” ( Isaiah 5:20)
We hear, and understand the reasons how this lie of which we speak was sold to the people, but we as the children of God, were not listening closely.  We were deceived.  The Word says : “Listen to His voice and hold fast to Him. For the Lord is your life.” (Deuteronomy 30:20)  When we are close to Him through consistently talking to Him as the Father that He is, the Brother – king and coach- that He is, and the Spirit of power love and wisdom that He is, we will not listen to the wrong voice because we will know it is not His voice. Jesus said, “My sheep follow me, because they know my voice.” (John 10:) He said they shall run away from that strange voice because they will not recognize it. (John 10:5)
Herein is the acid test:  If a viewpoint is proposed without the God of love as its foundation, if it removes Christ Jesus from its presence,  it comes from a spirit of falsehood.  This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth, and the spirit of falsehood. Let us listen to the Spirit of Truth. The Truth is the Holy Spirit that sets us free. (John 8:32)
May the Lord Bless you, and keep you, God’s Beloveds.  May He make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you.  He loves you and calls you by name.  You are His child of righteousness through Christ Jesus. Enjoy.
