“Train yourself to be Godly”. 1 Timothy 4:7

As we go into the new year, many have decided to do some things differently to make themselves more healthy.  We want to be healthy in body, soul, and spirit. We may decide to find a trainer to make it happen.

As a young lad of 17, I decided I wanted to go into the Military.  I joined the Navy, and was sent to San Diego, California for training.  Being a boy right off the farm, I had no knowledge of what being  a good Sailor meant, but that is the first thing we were taught.  Yes there was physical training involved -lots of it- but coming to know who we were, what we stood for, and how we could best serve our country was the most important thing.  Our thinking had to be right for correct actions to follow. We had to change some ways of thinking.
The Word tells us in Romans 12:2, “Do not conform to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.”
We train ourselves to be Godly by ‘opening our mind’ to the teaching and training of the Holy Spirit as He speaks to us.  We are trained as we read and hear the teachings of Jesus, the teachings of the prophets, the revelations given to the writers of scripture, as we come to understand and trust the love of the Father through the teachings of the new covenant of Grace. Our mind is renewed daily as we train under the Great Trainer.
As a trained Sailor, I came to know how to conduct myself. How to best serve. Paul wrote to Timothy telling him he should learn and be an example in conduct, in speech, in love, in faith, and in purity.(1 Ti 4:12)  May we allow ourselves to be properly trained to best serve our Lord; to show the love of our Lord to other believers, and to those who are not yet.  May we train ourselves to trust our wonderful God of Love in our own lives, and be blessed in all things.
May the Lord bless you, and comfort you, and strengthen you, and encourage you, and keep you in perfect health, God’s Beloveds.   May He provide for your every need as you look to Him.
In His Love,
Poppa B.
