“With The Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.”

As we continue our walk through 2 Peter, we pickup in chapter 3.  Writing this second letter under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Peter is reminding believers they must keep their thinking straight, and ‘wholesome’ while we await the return of The Lord Jesus.  Right thinking brings right action.

Picking up at verse 3, Peter writes:

“First of all you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.  They will say, ‘Where is this ‘coming’ He promised?  Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.’
But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water, and by water.  By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.  By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.  But do not forget this one thing dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.”
2 Peter 3: 3-8
We hear people say, “I think these are the last days before Christ comes again.”  They are correct.  The ‘last days’ are the days between when Christ Jesus ascended back to the Heaven of Heavens to reign beside our Father in Heaven on the throne of Grace, and when Father tells Jesus to go back for those who have accepted Him.  We are living in the last days.
There are those who look for signs to tell them when Christ Jesus is coming again, but The Lord said even He did not know.  When His disciples asked Him to tell them, He said “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Matthew 24:36)
The Word tells us Jesus is coming again, and He has asked us to continue His work of Love until He returns.  Unbelievers scoff because the Word of God means nothing to them.  They scoff at Believers who have asked Christ into their hearts, and who live for Him. The truth is disregarded.  They are like the people in Noah’s time who scoffed, and laughed as Noah built the Ark;  but what God had said, came to pass.  So it will be when Father says “It is time, my Son.  Go get my Children.”   We shall see Jesus appear in the sky coming with great power, and great glory.  Those who believe in His Word, and Love will be raptured out of the world and gathered to Him from the four corners of the world. (Matthew 24)    The current heavens and earth will be destroyed by fire to be replaced by a new heaven and new earth. (Revelations 21: 1)
As we read the New Testament, it appears the writers were looking for Jesus to return in their life time, but again, no one knows when.  We just know He will.  We are not to be deterred by time.
Peter wrote from (Psalm 90:4), which states:  “For a thousand years in Your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.”  The Lord is not confined to time as we know it.
Let us not be concerned about His return, let us be concerned about doing what He has asked us to do until He comes again.  Let us live in His Spiritual kingdom here on earth –  living life abundantly in victory in His authority and power. For as the Word tells us as He returned to heaven He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given unto me. Therefore, Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28: 18-20)  So it is written – So it shall be done.
You are greatly blessed, highly favored, and deeply loved, God’s Beloveds.  May we be encouraged, strengthened, and comforted by the truth of the Word.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it as we abide in His peace, and mercy, and grace, and favor, and Love.
I love you.
