“What is truth?” John 19:38

We continue our study of the Gospel of John.  The Lord had been arrested after He had taken the Pass-Over Meal with His disciples. After His arrest, He was taken to the High Priest, and to his son-in-law who was the previous High Priest, and then to Pilate, and then to Herod. Each time going through the attacks and accusations and lies of the Jewish Leaders.  As we pick back up, we find that Herod had sent Jesus, and His accusers back to Pilate.  Picking up at verse 33 of Chapter 19, we hear the Apostle John as he writes:

“Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked Him, ‘Are you the king of the Jews?’  ‘Is that your own idea,’ Jesus asked, ‘or did others talk to you about Me?’  ‘Am I a Jew?’ Pilate replied.  ‘Your own people and chief priests handed You over to me.  What is it You have done?’  Jesus replied, ‘My kingdom is not of this world.  If it were, My servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders.  But now My kingdom is from another place.’  ‘You are a king then!’ said Pilate.  Jesus answered, ‘You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth.  Everyone on the side of truth listens to Me.’  ‘What is truth?’ retorted Pilate…”  John 19: 33 – 38
“What is truth?”  This question is what has divided God’s children into believers and non-believers.  Those who believe in God, and .those who do not. Those who believe in God, but not sure of how to have a relationship with HIm.   It has created debate over what sin is, and what is not sin.  It has created debate over when life begins within the womb and how long it should be protected if it is not wanted.  It has been a huge factor in how a child should be raised.  “What is truth,” has been the main reason we have over 600 denominations within the Christian Community. We cannot agree on what Jesus meant when He said something.  Of course we could go on and on citing the many questions in, and about life, and everything in it, and “What is truth”, but there will always be many answers until ‘Truth’ is believed and received.  Jesus is Truth.
In John 14:6, we see where Jesus said, “I AM the Truth, I AM the Way, I AM the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.”  He is the Way.  “He is LOVE.” 1 John 4:8   Until we come to the position we believe that HE is Truth, and that He is The Way, and The Life, there shall be debate.  Wars will be fought over it, lives will be sacrificed because of lack of belief in it, and the question will still remain.  In our scripture today, Jesus said, “The reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth.”  The Lord came to bring Truth.  Let us hear it, believe it, and walk in the grace of it today, and every day.
Jesus made a special trip to tell us, HE is Truth!!   HE is the Word, John 1:1, which is where we find Truth.  This is where we can converse, and commune with Him every day.  This is where we find the rest of why He came.  He said I am the Way,  He said my way is unconditional Love.  He said I died for you, and now I live for you that you might have Life, and have it abundantly.?This is Truth.
