“Let nothing be wasted.” John 6:12

As we continue our study of the Gospel of John, we pick up at verse twelve of Chapter 6.    Writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle writes:

“When they all had enough to eat, He said to the Disciples, ‘Gather the pieces that are left over.  Let nothing be wasted.’  So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.”  John 6: 12 -13
What an amazing thing had just happened.  Jesus and His Disciples had just fed thousands of people with five small barley loaves, and two small fish. They ate until they were filled to not wanting anymore.  Evidently there were pieces of fish, and bread left over everywhere that had come forth from this one basket, and as usual, Jesus used the opportunity to teach.
He wanted to draw attention to the fact that not only did God provide, He provided Abundantly.  Jesus took what was given to Him, gave thanks for it, and gave it back in ways that only He could do.
Whatever we give Him; whether it is our time, or our talent, or a task, or a need, or a relationship, or a decision, or a desire of our heart, He takes it to a level that is beyond what we could ever do on our own.  We get so much more done when we give our time and our talent to Him as we begin our day, there is no comparison.  Our decisions are good, and our relationships are strong and good, and we can be at peace knowing the desires of our heart are in His hand being fulfilled as we delight in Him. “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”  (Psalm 37:4)
We see His presence and abundant supply in everything we do as we look for it.  We hear His voice saying as we listen, “Let nothing be wasted” for everything He gives is to be used, and enjoyed in its time and place.  He gives purpose and meaning to everything.
As we enter into this wonderful time of Christmas, as we celebrate the birth of our Lord of Goodness and Love, “Let nothing be wasted.”  Let us offer up to Him each day all that we are, and watch Him make every minute count.  Sometimes that is working, sometimes that is touching others in ways that they need, sometimes it is resting and relaxing in ways that we need.  In Him, there is nothing wasted.
Blessings and love upon you, and yours, God’s Beloveds.  May you walk in His perfect peace, and perfect health, and abundant prosperity in all good things.  May we never waste the provisions, and finished work our Lord has provided for these things to be ours.
