As we continue our journey through 1 John, we pick up at verse 24, of Chapter 3. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle writes:
“The one who keeps God’s commands lives in Him, and He in them. And this is how we know He lives in us: We know it by the Spirit He gave us.”
1 John 3:24
To keep God’s commands is “to believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one”. 1 John 3:23 When we believe in, and accept Christ Jesus as Lord, we receive the Holy Spirit of truth and love. When we receive the Holy Spirit, we receive the Spirit of Jesus, and the Spirit of the Father. They are One in three persons. The Lord establishes the kingdom of God within our spirit.
For this to happen, Jesus had to complete His work at the Cross, and return to the Father. As Jesus and His Disciples were approaching Jerusalem, He told them, “I am going to the One who sent me. It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go I will send Him to you.” John 16:5, 7. The Lord went back to Heaven, but He sent us heaven on earth in the Holy Spirit.
We can choose to listen to Him as He guides us to truth, and love and what is right, or listen to the ego, and lust of the flesh. When we make a bad choice, things are not going to go well, but He will not abandon us. He loves us unconditionally. By and through His grace He will continue to work with us, and lead us to truth, and the right path. It might take some time, but He will bring good from it. When it happens, we will see what He has done. Jesus said, ” Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”Matt. 28: 20. Father God said, “The Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”Joshua 1:9
When we realize what, (the Kingdom of God), and who (God Himself) is in our inner being, and enter into fellowship with Him in our spirit, there is a joy that nothing else compares to. We come to ‘know in our knower’ that He lives in us, and we live in Him. We are one with Him. We can walk in His power, and love, and wisdom, and knowledge and understanding, and grace. May we let it be so.
