We have just celebrated the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was raised from the dead to show He had defeated death and all things that led to it. He took our unrighteousness, and gave us His righteousness. He now sits on the Throne of Grace as Lord of Lords, and King of Kings. Because of what He did, “Father has exalted Him to the Highest Place, and has given Him the name that is above every name. So that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow in heaven and on earth, and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Is Lord to the glory of God.” Phil 2:9-10
The work is done. He did it all for us. All that remains for us is to “believe in the One whom God has sent.” (John 6:29)
After his life changing encounter with Jesus, Paul was called to write down the revelations given to him by the Lord. He wrote: “For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, ‘This is my body, which is for you: do this in remembrance of Me.’ In the same way after supper He took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood: do this, whenever you drink it in remembrance of Me.’ 1 Corinthians 11:23-25
Different denominations follow this command in different ways, but the most important thing is to do it. There is power in His body, and in His blood, and the Holy Spirit brings life into our body and soul, and spirit as we receive Him into our being. Jesus taught, “Whoever eats my flesh, and drinks my blood has eternal life and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is real food, and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in Me, and I in him.” John 6: 54-56 (WOW! Please take a minute and meditate upon that awesome truth.)
It is the practice of our Church to take this sacrament every time we meet. Tables are set up around the room, and time is given for anyone who so desires to partake. I do believe it is important take the time to give Him thanks for what He has provided; to search our heart, and ask the Lord to reveal and remove the things that are not of love in our life before we partake.(1 Corinthians 11:28). It is a wonderful time of refreshing renewal. I also believe we can do the same at home before each meal. His flesh is real food, and His blood is real drink. Let us always remember Him, and all that He is and does, and receive His body, and blood into our body, soul, and spirit as we eat. Talk about power within!
