We are privileged to have the Holy Scriptures, The Word, available to us. Also we must realize The Word of God has been under attack by evil to destroy it since the beginning of mankind in the Garden.
The Most High, Father God, had told the children He had created that they may eat of any fruit he had provided for them except the fruit on a particular tree in the middle of the Garden. It represented things that would take away their innocence, and have them involved in things that would that would harm them. He told them eating the fruit of that tree would cause them to be separated from Him in death. A spiritual death – He is Spirit and truth.
As we read in the Book of Genesis, chapter 3, we see the evil one telling the children that God was lying. But satan was the one lying as He told them “they would not die, and that the reason God did not want them to eat of the fruit was because it would give them wisdom, and make them like Him knowing good and evil. (He takes some of God’s words and twists the truth to fake us out.) He said, “Besides, it really tastes good, so take a bite.” (paraphrase) We know who they chose to believe, and what happened after that, as God relayed the story to Moses.
When we were created, God gave us the power to choose. He gave us the power to create. Our choices lead to creation of situations, and results. We can choose to believe God, and His Word, Jesus Christ. We can choose to believe the Holy Spirit enters into our being and empowers us to live in the kingdom of God above the fallen world; and to look to Him, and to trust Him by faith in Christ Jesus for our every need. Or we can choose to say in essence, “God is lying”, and choose to do things without Him.
Let us choose to believe the Word. When the Word tells us in Psalm 91:1 “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty,” let us receive that truth. Let us live life in it. Let us ‘rest’ in His ‘shadow’, in His ‘presence’, because He is with us. He has done the work of bringing us back to Him through Christ Jesus. Let us say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:2
Let us dwell in His shelter, trust in His Word, and live in His love. Let us share our good fortune of knowing what this brings to us with those in our lives.
When you get time today, please take a few minutes and read all of Psalm 91. It is beautiful detail of life when we make the Most High our dwelling place.
