As we continue our study of the Gospel of John, we pick up at verse 39, of Chapter 9. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, John wrote:
“Jesus said, ‘For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.’ Some Pharisees who were with Him say this and asked, ‘What? Are we blind too?’ Jesus said, ‘If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin, but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.'” John 9: 39-41
As we read chapter 9 in entirety, we see that Jesus had healed a man that was blind from birth to create this conversation with the Pharisees. He had done it on a Sabbath, and had used physical labor to do it to make His point. He wanted them to see how blind they were spiritually. He wanted them to understand that they could see both spiritually, and physically, if they listened to Him, and what they currently perceived as spiritual was in error. They thought they were correct, because they thought they were following the Law of God given to Moses, but they had contaminated it so with man made laws it was actually leading them into darkness. They had become blind to what is right.
Jesus said, “For judgment, I have come into this world.” He wanted them to see how simple and beautiful a relationship with God is. He had told them at another time when they had asked Him “What must we do to do the works God requires?” He had said to them, “The work of God is this: to believe in the One He has sent.” (John 6: 28-29). Simple, and beautiful. He wanted them to see that He is the One to judge, and He was (is) the One to bring sight that we might see clearly. When we look to Him, and trust Him to show us the right way it shall be done. When we look to our own judgment without Him, we are easily blinded by our enemy. Christ Jesus is the Light of the World. Let us walk in that Light. In that Light, “The blind will see.”
