John the Baptist was brought to this world to proclaim the Messiah. He was told to baptize people with water for repentance of sins; and that he would be shown who the Messiah was who would baptize with the Holy Spirit for the forgiveness of sins, and take away the sins of the world. He knew the Messiah was present, but he did not know who He was until God revealed Him at His baptism. (Matthew 3: 16,17)
John probably already knew Jesus personally, since His Mom, Elizabeth, a relative of Mary, was the first person Mary visited after she was told she would be the Mother of the Messiah. Mary stayed with Elizabeth, who was pregnant with John, for three months after that; so it stands to reason she would spend time with her after both John, and Jesus were born and the boys would know each other. Cousins who would change the world forever.
John immediately accepted Jesus. The Word says, “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.’ (John 1:29)
The Law demanded a perfect Lamb be sacrificed every morning, and every evening in the temple for the sins of the people (Exodus 29: 38-42) Because of His love and wonderful Grace, Father God allowed His only begotten Son to be the perfect sacrifice ‘Once’ for us all. The Word says, “For by one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.”…Then He adds, “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” And
where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.” (Hebrews 10: 14,17,18.)
Jesus, ‘The Lamb of God’, cleared the sin debt of every person born, past present and future, with His perfect blood. All that is left for us to do is believe in Him, and receive Him into our being. The Holy Spirit then works with our mind, heart and soul ‘making us holy’ as we give it all to Him.
The Word tells us “the accuser is defeated by the blood of the Lamb, and the word of our testimony.” (Revelation 12:11) Let us boldly, and thankfully say, “I am saved by the blood of the Lamb. He is my protection, my purification, my perfection, my provider and my peace. That is my testimony.” Let us walk in these things by His Grace.
