As we move through the Book of Psalms, we come to Psalm 24. This psalm is considered to be a Messianic writing as King David wrote of the One who will rule over the earth, and all in it, when the appointed time arrives.
Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, David the Prophet wrote: “Lift up your heads, O you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of Glory? The Lord Strong and Mighty, The Lord mighty in battle. Who is He, this King of Glory? The Lord Almighty – He is the King of glory.” Psalm 24:8, 10.
In chapter 7, verse 16 of 2 Samuel, the Word tells us of God’s promise to King David that his throne is established forever. David knew the King of glory would come through his line. As he wrote this psalm he wrote of the end time where the Lord will be strong in battle in a literal sense. This is why so many in Israel could not accept Christ Jesus as Messiah. Based upon what they had heard all of their lives, which were these words written by the mighty King David, they expected the Messiah to be a conquering hero just as David was. One who would deliver them from their enemies. Of course we know that Jesus did exactly that – but in a way and in an area totally unexpected.
The message is tell mankind to open their minds, – the gates to their soul – so that the King of glory may come in. Then as now, when we open our hearts to the Lord Almighty, He enters in Strong and Mighty. He becomes our Great Shepherd – we are His, and He will never let the enemy harm us. He guides us with His Staff of love, but He protects us with His iron rod.(Revelations 19:15). He says to us, “I am the living One; I was dead and behold I am alive for ever, and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.” (Revelations 1:18.) He has defeated death, and hell as evidenced by the fact that He now holds the keys that He took when His soul descended to Hades for us and released those who believed. (Ephesians 4: 7-10)
The King of glory came to us as a man from the line of David. Son of Man. He sacrificed Himself for our freedom, and defeated death, and arose from the grave in victory. Son of Man, and Son of God. At that time, He did not take the physical throne of David, but rather the Throne of Grace of His Father. Our King, Son of Man and Son of God sits at the right hand of our Loving Father to look after us in every way when we have given all that we are to Him.
He shall come again, and when He does, this time He will take the physical throne as well. When He comes again, on His robe will be written: KING OF KINGS,AND LORD OF LORDS.” Revelations 19: 13, and 16.
As we begin each day, let us give thanks for the Mighty One who is in our body, soul, and spirit if we have asked Him in. Let us ensure that all gates within are open. Let there be no area of our lives that we have not yielded to Him. Every need, every addiction, every source of anxiety, every question can be handled as we walk with the King of Glory.
The King is our Brother. His Father is our Father. We are in Him, and He is in us. We are One. He is Divine – as are we in Him. Let us lift up our heads, and our hands in praise and thanksgiving for all that He is to us, and for us.
Let us be encouraged, strengthened, and comforted in the truth of the Word.
Grace, and mercy is ours. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
