King David wrote: “Praise be to the Lord, for He has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to Him in song.”
Psalm 28:6,7
The Word tell us King David was a man after God’s own heart.(1 Samuel 13:14) Yet he, as we, was sadly imperfect in his flesh. The soul of David is what God looked at, and saw the love that was in his heart. God is Love, and love is our oneness with Him. This is how each of us who walk in the love of Christ, and in His Holy Spirit, are people after His own heart.
Though there was love in his heart for the Lord, and the desire to do what is right, David sinned in his flesh. David was sent a messenger, the Prophet Nathan to point out his greatest sin, as the Word tells us in 2 Samuel, chapter 12. When David looked clearly into the face of his sin, he cried out, ” I have sinned against the Lord.” He cried out for mercy, and forgiveness.
When we accept Christ Jesus as Son of God, and Savior of mankind into our soul, and the Holy Spirit gives birth to our holy spirit within; we become children of God. Love for God, and others wells up within us. And even though we are perfect in our spirit, we are still a work in progress by God in our soul, and flesh. We still sin.
Because of His love for us, and because He knows we do not want to sin, the Lord will present whatever it is for us to see. It is our choice to do with it as we will, it does not take away our salvation, but life changes and we reach a new level of growth when we deal with it as we should.
Paul says “Put to death, therefore whatever belongs to your earthly nature; sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.” He said, “rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.”(Colossians 3:5,8) That sin the Lord wants us to see may have just happened, or we may have been doing something for years and not seeing it for what it is. But at some point, the Lord will send a Nathan to help us see it; and when we do, when we clearly see it, we shall turn (repent) from it for we do not want to sin. We shall cry out for mercy, and forgiveness, we shall the pain of it in our heart. But praise His love, because of what Christ Jesus has done to take away our sins through the work of the cross – He will say, “The Lord has taken away your sin.” (2 Samuel 12:13) Through His mercy, and grace, we are cleansed of our unrighteousness. The consequences of our sin is in the hands of our loving, and kind. and gracious, and merciful Father. He shall use it for our good. (Romans 8:28) Let us “leap for joy, and give thanks to Him in song.”
