“Those who hear will live.” John 5:25

As we continue our study of the Gospel of John, we pick up at verse 25 of Chapter 5.   Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle writes:

“Very truly I tell you a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live.” (John 5:25)
The Lord is in conversation with the Jewish Leaders in Jerusalem.  He has performed a healing on the Sabbath, and while ignoring the miracle, they are very upset with Him, and are calling Him a ‘Law Breaker’.  He has told them the Father is always doing good regardless of the day, and that He Himself does as the Father does.  He has gone on to tell them that He IS the Son of God, and Father has given Him the responsibility to judge mankind.
He has told them of His authority by saying unto them,  “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears ‘my word’ and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life, and will not be judged but ‘has’ crossed over from death to life.” (John 5:24) (Please Meditate upon this truth.  It can be life changing for some.)
He is now telling them, the time has come when the dead will hear His voice.  He later spoke to the literal dead such as when He called Lazarus back to life as recorded in John 11:43-44, but He was also speaking to those who appear to be alive but are spiritually dead.
Of course they were not hearing him, because even though they were the Religious Leaders, ‘they’ were spiritually dead. Here is truth:
God created us to be a triune being, just as He is. ( He said, “Let us create man in our image”. Genesis 1:26)  He is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  We are body, soul, and spirit.  We can be alive in our body of flesh; and in our soul – (our mind, our will, our intellect), but be spiritually dead.  This is the part of mankind that died at the fall of man.  This is the part of us that is ‘born again’, when we accept Jesus as Savior, and Redeemer, and Lord.  When our spirit is born again, we become one with our Lord, and our Father God, and The Holy Spirit.  We are in His presence.  We hear His voice.  “Those who hear will live.”.
When Jesus called Lazarus back to life, He said, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”  (John 11:44)   He set Him free to live.  When Jesus calls us, and gives life to our spirit, and we are born again,  He sets us free from sin and death.  He sets us free to listen to Him, and to follow Him, and live as He does.  To live in a spirit of power, and love, and sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:9) To live in His Peace. (John 14:27)
May we hear His words, and enjoy His love, His peace, His provision, His protection, His grace, and His wisdom.  Let us live the Abundant Life in Him. “Those who hear will live.”
Blessings and Love to you, and yours, God’s Beloveds. You are greatly loved.
