“Scripture cannot be set aside” John 11:35

“We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”  Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I  have said you are “gods” ?   If he called them “gods”, to whom the word of God came – and Scripture cannot be set aside – what about the One whom the Father set apart as His very own and sent Him into the world?  Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son?’  Do not believe Me unless I do the works of my Father.  But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father.’ Again they tried to seize Him, but He escaped their grasp.  Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days.  There He stayed, and many people came to Him.  They said, ‘Though John never performed a sign, all that John said about this man was true.  And in that place many believed in Jesus.”  John 11:33-42

Jesus tried to tell the Jews again and again that He was God’s Son, and in Him was eternal life, and that in Him they would never perish. (John 11:26-30)  And if they had only listened, they would have heard Him saying, “I Am the Messiah.  The One you have been waiting for.”   Sadly for them, the only part they heard was Him saying, “He and the Father were One,” and to them He was blaspheming the name of God since he was a mere man, and should be stoned. (Leviticus 24:16)  But, written in their Law, and found in Psalm 82:6, the Word says, “those to whom the word of God came were called gods.”  Notice little g -ods. Not big G -ods.  This is a truth that some people still have problems with.  They find it hard to believe that we are gods, with godly authority, and therefore do not totally use the power that position brings.

Of course we are not God, but we are the children of the One and Only God, and are therefore gods in our spirit.   As an example, if your Dad’s last name was ‘Jones’, you are from the house of ‘Jones’, and therefore a ‘Jones’.  We are from the House of God, our big Brother is Christ Jesus, we are gods in spirit.   Paul wrote:  “You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourself with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all One in Christ Jesus.  If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” (Galatians 3: 26.) To give ourselves to Christ means we have accepted the Word of God into our heart.  Scripture says, “He called them gods to whom the word of God came.”

In Christ, we are not ‘mere’ men or women, boy or girl. We have been born again into a new creation. (2 Corinthians 5:17).  Let us stand on every promise and live in authority from the Scripture as the son of God, son of Man that we are.  Let us realize the ‘person/god’ we have become.  Scripture cannot be set aside.  Let us use that position wisely, and effectively, in power and in love, and represent our House well.
