“This happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” John 9:3

As we continue our study of the Gospel of John, we pick up at verse one of chapter 9.  Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle wrote:

“As He went along, He saw a man blind from birth.  His disciples asked Him, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?’  ‘Neither this man nor his parents sinned,’ said Jesus, but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.  As long as it is day, we must do the works of Him who sent Me.  Night is coming when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.   After saying this, He spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva and put it on the man’s eyes.  ‘Go’, He told
him, ‘wash in the pool of Siloam’ this word means ‘Sent’.  So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.”  John 9: 1-7
Proverbs 16:9 says, “The Lord establishes our steps.”  I love that truth; I live in peace because of it.   I firmly believe the Lord has directed us to something, or someone, or some situation to show us His love, or to use us as the messenger of His love to the world – every day.  He said, “While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”  So it is for us.
As we see from the Scripture, The Lord had placed someone in His path and was about to use that person that had been born blind to make a statement about passing judgment.  It was a common belief in the Jewish culture that sickness or suffering was the result of some great sin.  Jesus said, “Not true.” The Word says  “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. “(Romans 3:23), but God does not put sickness or disease or blindness or any kind of a calamity upon us because of our sins.  We live in a fallen world, and these things are in it, but God is good, and wants good things for us. He can and does use things that are born in darkness to show where the light of this world is.  It is in Him.  It is in His Love.  It is in us as we live in His love. This is how we do the works of Him who was sent to us, and for us.  This is how the works of God are displayed.
The man in this incident listened to the words of Jesus.  He may have asked, “Why do I have to do that?”, but he went in faith and came home seeing.  The Word of God sends us to Jesus.  When we go to Him in faith, we shall come home seeing.  We shall see that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Grace and peace to you from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Sweet Holy Spirit.  You are unconditionally Loved.?
