“Train a child in the way he should go.” Proverbs 22:6

The Book of wisdom tells us “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22: 6

When we look at Webster’s, we see the word “train” applies to many things. Several images come to mind as we read the many definitions.  My favorite is “to guide the growth of”.
This is what the Lord Jesus does for us – children of God – through the teaching and tutoring of the Holy Spirit.  He is always guiding, shepherding, showing us the best way, meeting our every need, loving us unconditionally in His grace, never forsaking us, with us always.
This too is what we are to do, and be for our children.  Children of our flesh, and children of our heart – all of those in our lives.
We are to guide them to truth.  We are to put the Word of truth into their lives as the Lord gives opportunities.  We are to let them know how much they are loved, and cherished, and valued through what we say, and do.  We are to teach them about the way our Heavenly Father loves us, and loves them.  We are to tell them about the way our Lord Jesus loves us, and loves them, and what He has done for each of us.  We are to teach them about the presence of the Holy Spirit when He is invited in to their heart, and what that means to living this life at a level that only He can bring.
We are to teach them the words of Jesus as He declared that “Love is the Way” to the abundant life in every area of life.  He said, “Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and body. And Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12: 29-31)  He said, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. For this sums up the Law, and the Prophets.”  (Matthew 7:12)  He said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”  (John 14:6)  Let us guide them to these truths and the many others in the Word.  Let us model them as Christ did.
Once Truth is in their heart, they will not turn from it.
May you prosper in wisdom, health, and in all good things, God’s Beloveds.  You are greatly blessed, highly favored, and deeply loved.
