Mary Magdalene was at the cross when Jesus was crucified. (John 19:25) She stood beside His Mother Mary and watched Him die. Mary had been delivered by Christ from the demons that possessed her, and she was a faithful and loyal supporter from that point on. She had seen the tomb where the Lord was placed after His death on that Friday. She saw them roll a huge stone across the entrance, sealed it, and placed Soldiers in front of it. After the Sabbath, early Sunday morning, while it was still dark, she went to the tomb, (John 20:1) just to be near Him. When she arrived there, she saw the stone had been rolled away, and she thought His body had been taken. She ran to tell the Disciples, and then ran back to the tomb and stood outside it crying.
The Word tells us “As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?’ ‘They have taken my Lord away,’ she said, ‘and I don’t know where they have put Him.’ At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.
‘Woman,’ He said, ‘why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?’ Thinking He was the gardener, she said, ‘Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you have put Him, and I will get Him.’ Jesus said to her, ‘Mary.’ She turned toward Him and cried out in Aramaic, ‘Rabboni! ‘ (which means Teacher). (John 20:11-16) Jesus was alive. His body had been raised back to life by the Holy Spirit. He showed Himself to her because she believed in Him, and she wanted to be near Him. He reached out to her, and comforted her. He met her need.
Jesus will always show Himself to us when we believe that He is Lord, and earnestly seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6) He has bodily returned to heaven to sit on the Throne of Grace to rule at the right hand of our Father. All power on earth and in heaven has been given unto Him (Matthew 28:18), but His Spirit dwells in us, and sits on the throne of the kingdom of God within our spirit when we invite Him into our heart, and yield that spot to Him.
We look for many things in life – as we should – but let us start the day looking to Christ Jesus, and go from there. Let us desire to be near Him for He is Lord of all. We are privileged to go to the top. We are His brothers, and His sisters. He will always receive us. He will always comfort us. He will meet our every need through our faith in Him.
