“Blessed is the person who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But their delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law they meditate day and night. They are like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever they do prospers.”
Psalm 1: 1-3
Every day of life we are given is a day filled with decisions. What steps do we take to make sure our decision is going to yield good fruit, and that we will be blessed by it?
The answer to that question is this: Jesus Christ is The Word, and the Word says look to the Word, and meditate upon it. Jesus said, “The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.” (John 6:63)
When we meditate upon the law of the Lord – the Word – we meditate upon love. Jesus said, “This one law I give you. Love one another as I have loved you.” When we meditate upon that truth, and other scriptures that speak of wisdom, and knowledge, and understanding we are preparing our mind to make good decisions by putting the right thoughts of truth into it. We ‘plant’ those thoughts by intentionally putting them into our mind by reaching for the many sources the Lord has made available to us. When we do, we become like a tree ‘planted’ by rivers of water. We grow, and yield fruit, and our leaves never wither because we are continually nourished by the rivers of life.
For the most part when we walk in the world, we will hear from the way of the wicked, the way of sinners, and the way of mockers. If we do not have our minds filled with the truth, we will accept those things because they can sound so good. When we have truth in our soul, our mind our will our emotions because we have meditated upon it, believed it,and are walking in it, we will make good decisions. Whatever we do shall prosper in its season. We shall be blessed because the power of life, the Holy Spirit, is helping us make good decisions. Jesus said, “Whoever believes in Me as the scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” By this He meant the Spirit. (John 7:38, 39)
